About Us

In 2005, some Chincoteague Island community members met at the town office regarding the possibility of a YMCA on the Island. A year later, a feasibility survey proved an overwhelming amount of support with 500 residents participating and a community meeting was held to gauge the level of interest for an Island YMCA with 120 residents attending. A committee was formed and volunteers began organizing and running programs throughout the community. The Mid-Delmarva Family YMCA, who operated branches in both Salisbury and Pocomoke, worked with the volunteers to help organize and facilitate their programs.

In 2009, Chincoteague Island Family YMCA opened the doors to a cardio-fitness facility on Maddox Blvd thanks to the efforts of the Mid-Delmarva Family YMCA, the Chincoteague Island Advisory Committee and the community.

Through the gracious contribution of a local family, in 2014, the Chincoteague Island Family YMCA now has a permanent home! It is our desire to renovate and expand our facility on Maddox Blvd. to provide a state-of-art YMCA equipped to substantially increase the number of programs offered for those on the Island and local residents on the mainland.

We are working to renovate and expand our facility on Maddox Boulevard to provide a state-of-art YMCA equipped to substantially increase the number of programs offered for those on the Island and local residents on the mainland.  Our Capital Campaign goal is $300,000 and we are excited to announce we are at $43,000 as of April 22, 2016.

We are so excited for the future, thanks for being a part of it!  Look for us to break ground by July 1, 2016!
